EDUCATION Whenever possible Opera Fairbanks hosts Master Classes with our professional vocalists and conductors and free classes for children, providing an early insight to the world of opera. Check back often for upcoming classes and programs.

What's all the Yelling About?: A Look at Opera from the Inside Maestro Gregory Buchalter of the Metropolitan Opera gave the inside scoop about what really goes on in an opera house! THIS WAS A FREE PROGRAM FOR GRADES 4 AND UP at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Salisbury Theatre.
MASTER CLASS Opera Fairbanks presented MAESTRO GREGORY BUCHALTER of the METROPOLITAN OPERA in a Master Class at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Salisbury Theatre.
Maestro Buchalter discussed audition preparation, a conductor's expectations for professional vocalists, and his experiences working with opera companies around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera.
Seven (7) individual vocalists received intensive coaching during the Master Class. Individual participation was allowed on a first-come basis only. Participants registered and paid a $25 participation fee in advance to reserve a space. Participants were prepared to sing three (3) arias in contrasting styles and languages. Members of the public were invited to observe - with a suggested donation of $10.
