Christine Keene - Zerlina Christine Renée Keene, soprano, has been praised for her “remarkable hall-filling voice” and her “well-supported soprano…drawing just a little reverb from the beams and walls”. Recently returned from a year living and working in Vienna, Austria, she has been increasingly active with opera companies and festivals around Alaska – most recently playing Sister Genovieve in Anchorage Opera's Suor Angelica, Abel in the Alaskan premiere of La Tabernera del Puerto and understudy to Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She has also performed with Opera Fairbanks’ Green Eggs and Ham and with Juneau Lyric Opera and Opera to Go as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. Other roles include Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Norina (Don Pasquale), Flora (The Turn of the Screw), Cissie Woodger and Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Mrs. Nordstrom (A Little Night Music), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) and has played the title role in both Little Red's Most Unusual Day and Little Red Riding Hood. Overseas she was seen as Despina (Cosí fan tutte) and Zaïde (Zaïde) with the Amadeus Opernensemble in Salzburg, Austria. Her concert repertoire includes soloist in Carmina Burana, Messiah, and Handel's Dixit Dominus.
An Alaskan at heart, Christine was the 1st place winner of the 2001 and 2002 Anchorage Concert Chorus Vocal Competitions, the 2001 NATS Alaska Vocal Competition, and was the 2004 Anchorage Festival of Music’s Young Alaskan Artist. Among her other credits Christine was chosen as an Anchorage Opera Young Artist and won top honors in the Dean Allen Competition hosted by Ms. Gloria Allen. Christine received her master of music from Florida State University and attended her undergraduate studies at both the University of Alaska and the University of Oregon. Christine is currently a Resident Artist with Anchorage Opera. Always striving to bring classical vocal music to new audiences, her upcoming engagements include collaborative recitals with a visual artist in a local art gallery and as well as a recital with a fellow magician.
